US President Donald Trump to attend World Economic Forum in Davos, might meet PM Modi again
US President Donald Trump has decided to attend the World Economic Forum which is scheduled for January 23-26 in Davos, Switzerland. Trump plans to bring his “America First” agenda to the Swiss ski resort of Davos.
It will be the first time in 18 years that a sitting US president will be attending the World Economic Forum which traditionally emphasises global interconnectedness and cooperation. The theme of this year’s summit is “Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World”.
“At this year’s World Economic Forum, the president looks forward to promoting his policies to strengthen American businesses, American industries, and American workers,” said White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.
With Trump’s decision to attend a summit that focuses on international interconnectedness, many are asking if it is a way to take a step back from his message of economic nationalism.
However, Sarah Sanders justified that the “President is still 100 percent focused and committed to promoting policies that promote strength for American businesses and the American worker”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too will be attending the summit and there is a possibility that the two leaders will meet again. Narendra Modi will be become the first Indian prime minister to attend the summit in Davos since 1997.
